Sommaren 2016 stängde kocken och krögaren Björn Frantzén sin tvåstjärniga restaurang i Gamla Stan för att flytta till ny lokal. 30 augusti slår nya Frantzén upp dörrarna på Klara Norra Kyrkogata 26 i centrala Stockholm. I fastigheten för nya Frantzén pågår sedan ett år tillbaka en total ombyggnation av restaurangens totalt tre våningar samt terrass. Trots att ytan blir mer än fem gånger större än den gamla restaurangen behålls de 23 sittplatserna.
I väntan på att ombyggnationen blir klar har tiden utnyttjats maximalt i Frantzéns provlagningskök. Genom ett kreativt och metodiskt arbete har ett flertal nya rätter skapats som får premiär på restaurangen.
– Nya Frantzén har samma gastronomiska inriktning och filosofi som den tidigare restaurangen, säger Björn Frantzén. Den stora skillnaden är tillgången till alla de tekniker vi tidigare saknat på grund av platsbrist i köket, exempelvis matlagning över öppen eld. Vår främsta målsättning med nya Frantzén är dock att skapa en helhetsupplevelse som inte var möjlig i den förra lokalen.
Nya Frantzén har skapats i samarbete med inredningsarkitekterna på Joyn Studio. Restaurangen kommer att drivas av Björn Frantzén samt köksmästaren Marcus Jernmark. Ansvarig förmatsalsarbetet står Carl Frosterud som tidigare arbetade på Operakällaren och chefssommelier är Anna Rönngren.
Bokningen för nya Frantzén öppnar klockan 10.00 den 30:e juni.
Juiceverket (at Mood Gallery – Norrlandsgatan) is definitely one of my favourite hang outs. They now have more than 6 branches around Stockholm. I was there today (just coming back from holiday) and saw that they have a new juice menu!
After having some difficulties to decided I went for
Ginger Green Sumo
Turned out to be an excellent choice. Despite being 70% veggie, it was really tasty. Became my lunch and lasted me all the way to dinner
Service is great, drinks are great, music is loud!

For the sixth consecutive year Proviant was awarded Proviant a Bib Gourmand by Michelin. A BIB Gourmand awarded to restaurants that serve good food at a reasonable price. I believe this very much highlight the personality of Restaurant Proviant.
A first glance at the menu gives you the feeling this is a french bistro but a closer look shows everyone that Proviant is all about the freshness and the origins of what they serve. From the starters we tried the Swedish toast (se below) with shrimps and salmon and the forest mushrooms on toast – they were both lovely.

From the mains I was a bit defensive and went for the Steak Tartare which was lovely but maybe a bit ordinary (not their fault) but uniquely served with whiskey to pour over the meat – fun and brought a good new taste to the dish. Most appreciated was probably the Lemon sole on the bone with cabbage, apple with fennel & tarragon sauce – looked really fantastic.

Proviant is a Small, cosy restaurant, limited menu but nothing really missing. On top of serving really well cooked, really good food, it was served with very good timing (and a smile). And for the great quality we got, I feel that the menu was quite reasonably priced.
Two important things to remember:
1) Please visit the butchers shop located next doors. Fantastic
2) On sunday they have a set 350 SEK menu (3 dishes) which usually is fantastic.
Restaurant Hjerta is run by Swedish chef Malin Söderström (who is famous from doing cooking on swedish TV). She operates two restaurants (also the restaurant at the Modern museum of arts) on the waterside of Skeppsholmen .
At Restaurant Huerta she wanted to see more of season mindset. With the location at the quayside she wanted to bring in a more close to the archipelago feeling in the kitchen. Therefore the menu has everything from smoked fish, meat – and ice cream (in summer outside).
The menu is small and the dishes somewhat robust. Many of the dishes are just smoked. As Skagen röran, served in a large clicks even as half portion and with great taste. For seafood lovers, there is also the ”Archipelago Plank”, a variety of finger foods from the sea to divide into two or four. Skeppsholmspizza, which is very affordable for its 130 SEK, served in two variants. The version with smoked chuck steak and pepper mayonnaise has a good balance of smokiness, but the salt mayonnaise. The vegetarian pizza with artichoke is very hot with the priest cheese, sour cream fund chillies.
Outside the restaurant has a new outdoor terrace been built and almost doubled the restaurant in size. From a white and red Citroën bus from 1962 sold refreshments and there are plans for a picnic to go (unfortunately summer only)
From the outside the building may not like much (located in the same building as the previous restaurant Pontus by the sea), but inside you’ll find French 20’s vibes . Here is an open kitchen and 20-inspired décor with brass fittings and a large bar in the middle. At the front, the quay, is spreading even outside terrace out with a large bar and dining area, one of the city’s most popular modes in the summer especially on sunny days.
Apparently the crowd of guests is business people and a lot of tourists. The menu focuses mainly on French brasserie cuisine with emphasis on seafood and char-grilled meat. The seafood line up on the ice in our amazing seafood dishes in the open kitchen.
From the menu we chose salmon on a bed of vegetable with an aioli based sauce. Before our lunch we are served a mushroom soup that is tasty but not more than this. When we are presented the bill we also get at ”goodie bag” to take away – an home made energy bar which is a positive surprise. Service at the restaurant is very friendly although a bit slow considering the lunch rush.
But although the kitchen, under the chef Jonas Markstedts management, is fairly stable maybe there is something missing.
However the view from the restaurant almost forgives anything the restaurant lacks. Its is probably not at restaurant that every will get a star recognition but this is not the aspiration either.

Bockholmen is situated just in the beginning of the Swedish archipelago with just a subway ride away (Bergshamra). The island’s restaurant offers a small but ambitious menu that leaves you wanting more . The food along with leafy location and the friendly care makes Restaurant Bockholmen a place to return to .
The house that today is Bockholmen Hav & Restaurang is called “The yellow villa”. It was built at the end of the 17th century as one of many merchant houses, that is spectacular summer houses för wealthy people from Stockholm whom made a fortune during the start of the industrialisation.
We decided to have dinner in the lovely evening sun at the ”real” restaurant. This turned out to be an excellent choice.
Guests are a mixed clientele of the elegant upper middle class , possibly from the neighboring municipalities , and the atmosphere is calm and relaxed. It’s easy to feel welcome among the lush flower pots , especially as the servicing is friendly and cool, while being knowledgeable and helpful.
Philip Fastén, earlier at Restaurant Frantzén and named Chef of the Year 2014 opens his first restaurant along with Joel Åhlin from ”Tjoget” in Stockholm . Fastén and Åhlin will take over the premises which today belongs to Chez Betty ( Roslagsgatan 43) . According to Phiip Fastén neither the name of the restaurant nor the direction of the food has been decided. However it will not be a fine dining restaurant but instead the focus will be on good grub and a vibrant menu that changes over time. The Restaurant is scheduled to open in November 2015

The two buildings that form Långa Raden (the long row) was collectively built in 1699-1702 to accommodate the 200 bodyguards of King Charles XII. As Charles spent most of his regency on the battlefields, however, neither building was used for the original purpose, serving instead to house the poor and homeless.
With in fantastic setting (inside Hotell Skeppsholmen) It feels as if we are on an island in the Stockholm archipelago , but in fact, we are on an island in the middle of Stockholm. The feeling of tranquility and seclusion characterize Restaurant Långa Raden (translated – the long row). It is open all year, but of course summertime with its big outside terrace and possibilities for children to play in the garden, has its clear advantages.
The interior concept with Scandinavian minimalism runs even through the menu. Here classics like meatballs and Kalixlöjrom (Roe) and shrimp sallad is a given place, although all have been given a modern twist.
The combination of ingredients and seasonings are sometimes surprising but the menu is short but well thought out and has a clear Swedish touch without being dogmatic.
Esperantos dining room is on ”summer holiday” and instead the owners has opened a French Summer Salon with focus as always on respect and availability of raw material, animal nature and this year with a french touch of food and wine. All guest are seated around one large marble table with 16 guests welcome per seating.
It is a truly fantastic dining experience – well worth its Michelin Guide star!
Esperanto restaurant opened its doors in November 2005. It is run by the former member of the Swedish Culinary Team Sayan Isaksson. Restaurant manager: Sara Kalin. Sommelier: Soren Polonious. The name Esperanto is apparently taken from the book ”The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho.
From the menu we are suggested to pick 4-5 starters and one of mail courses. This was enough for two persons.
The Restaurant is based in an old 19th century Spa and the environment and quietly attentive staff give a relaxing serenity.
Last year Esperanto shared the award for best restaurant in Sweden. As the name suggests, it finds inspiration in food cultures worldwide.
The Boeuf that came after the first four awesome starters…..was maybe the best we have ever eaten!
Even though it was a +29 degree evening and the restaurant has no outside seats, but with the open windows it was a ”must go again” experience highly recommended
AFW is started by six Texas Longhorn owners (the famous BBQ) chain who wanted to try something new influenced by their extensive travel in the southern parts of the USA. Stockholm has many BBQ type of places, but very few with origins from ”deep south”.
Austin Foodworks located between Odenplan and Norrtull somehow feels like a hipster, (male?…but with many female guest) typ of place. The restaurant has not only put a lot of research into the food but also the interior feels genuine with a ”hip” type of construction lamps, roasted plate and Mason Jars lamps adorn the ceilings, worn wood, old oil cans from post-apocalyptic petrol station in Texas, lots of bourbon and rye decorates liquor shelf.
Austin Food Works is open both for lunch and dinner (altough me personally would prefer dinner). Even though it feels like a ”meaty” type of place, you will also find vegetarian dishes on the menu. On top of the brisk plate we also tried the soft tacos, the the fries with melted cheese which were all very tasty. It feels real, but I’m not sure the big ”audience” have heard about the place yet (?).
Prices are very resonable and if you don’t feel like eating – the choice of draft beers in the bar is impressive. When we arrived at the restaurant, we found Melker Andersson enjoying the AFW chicken at a isolated table!
Service was great with a warm welcome and very good timing .
The first week in July – Pontus Frithiofs new restaurant will open its gates . The London based restaurant concept with just lobster and hamburgers on the menu will occupy the former fine dining location on Norrlandsgatan. The restaurant primarily based in the basement will also host a 20 meter bar area upstairs and around 100 seats. The price tag is as simple as the menu: All courses cost 275 SEK. Since the restaurant has limited the number of choices they have put all the focus on the atmosphere, music and colorful service.
According the Pontus Frithiof the Interest in the Burger & Lobster concept has been tremendous since we released the news in March. The restaurant Burger & Lobster is a collaboration with Modis restaurants (a company that up to now have run more suburbian type of lunch restaurants).
Let’s if it will be a success also in Stockholm. However since especially the younger urban professional crowd never seems to get tired of having burgers….chances are high.
The first Burger & Lobster restaurant opened in Mayfair in London in 2011. It became a huge success. Soon followed several branches and just this year launched eight pieces of restaurants in the world, from Manchester to Dubai.

You only live once (YOLO) opened in august 2014 and has become one of the most appreciated restaurant in Djursholm. Situated on a restaurant ”busy” street (where you will also find La Piazza and Monrad’s. Top restaurateur Jonas Lundgren ( silver medalist in the chef world championships in 2009 and with its own restaurant Jonas on Kungsholmen) created the menu but are not seen in the kitchen so often. That is not negative in any way. In the Kitchen you will findchefs Danny Falkeman and Jonas Lagerström as boss of the daily work. Yolo is a fine dining restaurant in relaxed surroundings, it has a ”at home” feeling about it with a Svenskt Tenn touch.
Overall I’m impressed by Yolos brilliant craftsmanship , excellent flavor combinations and total solfège regarding empathetic service.
Yolo will offer lunch and dinner , and weekend brunch . Raw materials (with focus on swedish eco friendly food) are chosen with care and the menu is replaced frequently .

In the summertime Djuret light up the charcoal grill in their summer Restaurant Svinet in the courtyard next to Restaurant Djuret. Svinet means ”the pig” in Swedish and this garden barbeque restaurant is all about pig and nothing else. The menu is based upon the pig which is cut and grilled on charcoal.

On the top floor in the shopping center MOOD Stockholm, you will find Cafe Egoiste, a cafe / bistro serving everything from self-produced wares to a menu containing the best from France, inspired by its former Asian colonies. A visit to the cafe Egoiste is like a mini vacation to Paris, an opportunity for good food, coffee and pastries in a small oasis in the big city.
Café Egoiste is the sister cafe to Cafe Saturnus but serves more food like dishes. Café Egoiste opens already at 7 on weekday morning with breakfast, then continues with a lunch which is changed every day and ends with bistro dishes, salads, and sandwiches until closing 20:00. On weekends, breakfast is served from breakfast then turns into a very popular brunch served between 12 and 17:30. Not the cheapest place around, but well worth your money spent.
The need for meetings and conferences in central Stockholm will always be big and Cafe Egoiste contribute to this with a ‘Business Lounge’ which is bookable for up to 14 people at a fee of 1000 SEK.
On the terrace there are also two tree houses that can accommodate eight people each, those booked through MOOD Stockholm Consiergesservice. Looks pretty cool.
The restaurant area is complemented by an ”terrace” that has a champagne club/bar which is run by none other than champagne expert Richard Juhlin .

Cafe Saturnus is a popular cafe and restaurant located on Östermalm in central Stockholm. In the relaxed environment you will be served deluxe simple but tasty café food . The premises , in which one finds everything from dedicated regulars to curious tourists and very famous people like Roger Federer and Princess Madeleine with her husband Chris!
They all contribute together with the staff to a genuine atmosphere inspired by France – in the mornings there will be loud french music like for example Edith Piaff in the cafe.
Currently ranked as the 54th best restaurant/cafe of over 2000 in Stockholm by users on the Tripadvisor. The large cinnamon rolls are especially well-known in Stockholm, where they become something of a classic among locals. Also their Banoffe Pie is awesome!
Cafe Saturn is owned and operated by Christina and Christos Pispas who took over the business after the previous owners in 2003. They are often seen in the kitchen (Christina) and talking to customers in the cafe (Christos)
To get in the right mood in the morning, stop by for a double espresso macchiato, read the papers and enjoy the french music. You will not be disappointed!
